I met a friend this morning who I call one of my "business friends". When I started the business 7 years ago, a few of us at-home working entrepreneurial types would get together once/month to talk about the challenges we all faced intermingling it all.
I haven't seen Tina in years! Two of the "girls" in our group moved away and Tina and I had babies 2 and 3 years ago, respectively. Thus, no more meetings. But, we met at the ever-so-posh business establishment of the Chick-filet (mainly because of the indoor playroom) to discuss a new business venture.
This playroom, in theory, was supposed to allow us 10 minutes to talk while we sat watching our children romp around with smiles playing. Hmmmm. Her son was having fun but, pretty much every 8-25 seconds he would open the door, close the door, we both would cringe every time thinking, "this time will be his fingers." My daughter (almost 3) on the other hand spent the entire hour using me for a jungle gym!
Even though we managed to talk about what we went there to discuss, it made me realize why I don't try to do that anymore!
She has a great schedule and something I think working Moms really need to think about. She has someone watch her son 9-12, then he takes a 2-3 hour nap - so, she has 9-3 most days.
This is important advice for anyone wanting to have a home business - I have learned there has to be set time to work. Of course, I have never done this! If you don't do this, you run the risk of working, like many at-home working Moms, from 9pm - 2am. And, this can be a drain.
It's the weekend and I'm taking time for myself tomorrow : )
P.S. It was career day at school - my oldest daughter (in the photo) decided to dress up like an artist - just like her Dad! Cheers!
